Design and Installation Services

The design services are performed in three stages.

1) Requirements Analysis: During this stage, the design team member visits the sites and talks to relevent members of the organization to understand the final use of the network in terms of manageability, performance, availability, fault tolerance, and support.

2) Design and Equipment Selection: Based on the gathered requirements, a design is drawn up that contains a network diagram and connectivity details. The design also includes a bill of materials that contain all network devices, cabling material, and other items needed for creating the network.

3) Pre-configuration service1: After the basic design is completed, each device is configured in the lab and its configuration tested. The configured network devices are tested to check whether it complies with the design parameters. Once this is done, a list of test processes are created and documented; these processes can be used by support personnel to diagnose problems during installation and regular use.

Wide Area Network Design Services

During requirements analysis, the design team gathers information about the proposed network. These include:

» the locations to be connected.

» connectivity and in-house support options available at each location.

» identify mission-critical connections.

» estimate peak data traffic between different locations.

» explore ways to reduce peak traffic by using better software.

After requirements are gathered, the design team uses all the options at their disposal to formulate a cost-effective solution suited to the needs. To do this, the design team does the following:

» Explore use of low recurring cost connectivity options. For example: wireless, fiber cables, ADSL, Extranets.

» If they cannot the used, leased lines are considered.

» Use redundant connections for mission-critical connections.

» Chooses suitable network equipment.

» Documents interconnectivity of network devices in a network diagram.

During the optional pre-configuration service, the design team performs the following steps.

» Creates configuration scripts for each equipment.

» Creates and documents processes for support personnel.

» Creates and documents processes for remote support.

Local Area Network Design Services

During requirements analysis, the design team gathers the following information.

» Study the area and estimate the number of nodes.

» Estimate bandwidth requirement to desktops and servers.

» Check whether wireless access is needed.

» Study fault tolerance and availability needs.

» Understand specific security needs.

After requirements analysis, the design team creates the blueprint of the network. In doing so, they pay special attention to the following.

» Choose suitable physical media based on speed and distance.

» Explore whether core and distribution layers are needed.

» Factor in security in design to deal with external and internal threats.

» Estimate core and distribution layer switching fabric speeds.

» Based on need, factor in redundant links between switches.

» Explore whether certain desktops or servers need redundant interfaces.

» Choose suitable network equipment.

» Document interconnectivity of network devices in a network diagram.

During the optional pre-configuration service, the following activities are done.

» Create configuration scripts for each equipment.

» Create and document processes for support personnel.

Storage Systems Analysis and Design

During requirements analysis, the design team gathers the following information.

» Estimate the storage capacity needed now and expected growth.

» Understand data performance, disaster recovery and security needs.

The design team proceeds to create a storage solution with attention to the following.

» Decide whether DAS, NAS or SAN should be used.

» Servers may be connected directly to SAN using fiber channel.

» For disaster recovery, advanced SAN features may be used.

» A storage system is drawn up based on the above decisions.

» A detailed inventory of equipment needed is also drawn up.

SmartNET has tied up with EMC to provide SAN services. Once it is decided that a SAN is required, the EMC team assists with design, implementation and support services.

Wireless Link Installation

SmartNET implements point to point outdoor wireless links for sites up to 5 kilometers apart. Our implementation team performs the following.

» Perform a wireless site survey to find line of sight and signal interference.

» The team uses terrain maps, GPS receivers and spectrum analyzers.

» Install towers, antennas, and wireless access points at sites.

» Vertical Antenna positioning done using altimeters.

» Antenna positioning on the polar axis done using magnetic compass.

» Measure received signal strength at all sites (uplink and downlink).

Instrumentation & Data Acquisition Systems Interfacing

SmartNET has considerable experience in interfacing Instrumentation and Data Acquisition Systems to Ethernet and SCADA systems.

» Familiar with interfacing options available on systems.

» Expertise in Industrial Ethernet and serial tunneling.

» Experience working with serial interfaces (232, 422, 485).

» Familiar with Modbus/Serial and Modbus/TCP.

» Deals in a wide range of conversion equipment.

Voice over IP Systems

SmartNET implements multi-site VoIP solutions that are used for intra-organization calls. SmartNET uses the following devices to implement a solution that suits customer needs.

» VoIP gateways for connecting sites through WAN links.

» SIP, HE.323 and interpretative SIP/HE.323 gateways.

» Software and hardware IP phones.

» VoIP PBX solutions.

Smart Support Services

Smart Support Services are aimed at identifying problems before or immediately after they occur, and arm the customer with options that he never had before. For large IT installations, it is vital that support staff know about outages before customers call. It requires an extensive monitoring system that keeps track of all the vital parts of the infrastructure -- be it network, server hardware, or software.

When a piece of hardware fails, replacement by warranty may take a few days. SmartNET has an immediate replacement option that removes the requirement to stock standby equipment. If your damaged equipment was not under warranty with us, we provide an immediate rental service so that the customer can take control of the situation.

Smart Monitoring

» Install and maintain monitoring tools.

» Monitor critical hardware and software in addition to network devices.

» Monitoring checks resource over-utilization and failures.

» Optional on-site personnel provided.

» Alerts are sent to support and management based on escalation matrix.

» Monthly or annual payments.

Smart Warranty

» Immediate replacement option available.

» Equipment pre-configured, if the site is covered by Smart Monitoring.

» Service may be availed of even after failure occurs

» Monthly or annual payments.

1) The pre-configuration service allows a fast implementation phase. It also allows use of lower skilled personnel using the installation phase because of the use of pre-tested configurations and pre-configured equipment.

2) There may be some situations where configuration scripts have to developed or tested during installation phase. Usually, this may be due to unavailability of the specific network devices (or their simulation software) in our design laboratory.

3) Subject to availability in stock. We maintain extensive stocks of network devices from leading manufacturers. But, some devices may not be available in stock to unexpected surge in demand or because it is not frequntly in demand.
